Twin SU Carbs
Twin SU Carbs have been fitted to many classic British sports & sports saloons since the early 1900's. At the outset mainly to the more expensive cars of the time for example Bentley, MG, Riley and Aston Martin. Later as cars became more affordable Twin SU Carbs started appearing on the more mainstream cars such as the MG Midget, Healey Sprite and Mini Cooper along with a whole host of Austin/Morris/Rover saloons of the 50's, 60's &70's.
Twin SU Carbs offer greater performance as the mixture can be set much more accurately over the individual cylinders of the engine giving a much improved throttle response over a single SU Carb set up. This has made Twin SU Carbs popular as performance conversions for other cars not originally fitted with SU Carbs such as the Ford Popular, Consul, Zepher/Zodiac & the Austin seven.
And so was born the performance tuning industry for the basic 'family' cars with a whole host of tuning companie popping up in the 50's & 60's such as Derrington, Aquaplane, Alexander, Downton and Speedwell...the list goes on!
Twin SU Carbs are more difficult to set up requiring accurate balancing and mixture setting but once set up correctly you really notice the difference over single SU Carbs and they look and sound great as well!
